In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil, sliced onions and fresh mushrooms. Occasionally stirring, allow the onions and mushrooms to cook for about 3-4 minutes to soften up then scoot them to one side of the skillet. Place the ground beef patties into the skillet and allow them to sear for 4-5 minutes on each side or until internal temp reaches 165 degrees.

Tip and Tricks for The BEST Hamburger Steaks

  • Sear When Cooking- Allowing the steaks to sear on each side helps to create a golden brown crust and helps hold moisture into the steak patties.
  • Use A Meat Thermometer- To prevent overcooking the steaks, use an instant read meat thermometer. Once the steaks hit 160 degrees internal temperature, removed them from the heat.
  • Customize To Taste- Add sautéed bell peppers, extra seasonings, or even top each ground beef patty with cheese to elevate the flavor.
  • Simmer In Gravy- Allowing the steaks to simmer in thick brown gravy is a great way to enhance the depth of flavor and allow the flavor of the gravy to soak into the steaks.

  How To Store Leftovers

  • Cool Them First- Allow the steaks to cool to room temperature before storing them. This will help prevent condensation which can lead to watery gravy.
  • Refrigerate- After placing the leftovers in an airtight container, store them in the fridge for 3-4 days.
  • Freezing- Wrap each steak individually in plastic wrap, then place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. Frozen hamburger steaks can last for up to 2-3 months.
