How To Make Juicy Hamburger Steaks
In a large bowl add both gravy packets and water then whisk until well combined and you see no clumps. Then set to the side. In another large bowl, add the ground beef, finely diced onions, onion powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt and black pepper to taste. Fold the meat, mixing together the seasonings.
Form the ground beef mixture into oval patties. (You should end up with around 5 nice size patties)
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil, sliced onions and fresh mushrooms. Occasionally stirring, allow the onions and mushrooms to cook for about 3-4 minutes to soften up then scoot them to one side of the skillet. Place the ground beef patties into the skillet and allow them to sear for 4-5 minutes on each side or until internal temp reaches 165 degrees.
If there is excess grease in the skillet, drain it. Then with the skillet over medium-low heat, add the gravy mixture, stirring until it thickens to desired consistency. Serve and enjoy!
Tip and Tricks for The BEST Hamburger Steaks
- Sear When Cooking- Allowing the steaks to sear on each side helps to create a golden brown crust and helps hold moisture into the steak patties.
- Use A Meat Thermometer- To prevent overcooking the steaks, use an instant read meat thermometer. Once the steaks hit 160 degrees internal temperature, removed them from the heat.
- Customize To Taste- Add sautéed bell peppers, extra seasonings, or even top each ground beef patty with cheese to elevate the flavor.
- Simmer In Gravy- Allowing the steaks to simmer in thick brown gravy is a great way to enhance the depth of flavor and allow the flavor of the gravy to soak into the steaks.
How To Store Leftovers
- Cool Them First- Allow the steaks to cool to room temperature before storing them. This will help prevent condensation which can lead to watery gravy.
- Refrigerate- After placing the leftovers in an airtight container, store them in the fridge for 3-4 days.
- Freezing- Wrap each steak individually in plastic wrap, then place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. Frozen hamburger steaks can last for up to 2-3 months.
