These Smashburger Sliders are delicious and so versatile! They are perfect as an appetizer, or for supper. They can also be made in the comfort of your own kitchen or outside on the grill!
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- ½ yellow onion, diced
- 12 slider rolls
- 8 slices mild cheddar cheese
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- ¼ cup ketchup
- Burger or Charbroil seasoning to taste
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
How To Make Smashburger Sliders
Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees. Then, cut the sliders rolls in half equally and horizontally. Of note, if you are using Kings Hawaiian rolls make sure to purchase the savory butter version instead of the original sweet rolls. To make the burger sauce, mix the ketchup, mayo, and mustard together and set in the refrigerator.
Then, on a large piece of parchment paper, start by forming the ground beef into two equal size balls. Place another piece of parchment paper on top of ground beef balls and smash the balls flat using a large baking sheet or casserole dish. You want the patties to be thin and large enough to fill the size of the slider rolls. Also, form the meat into a rectangle that will fit the size of the slider rolls. When determining the size, make sure to account for shrinkage that will occur when cooking. Finish by seasoning the meat generously with burger seasoning or charbroil seasoning.
Next, baste the interior of the sliders rolls with butter and place in the oven for 5-10 minutes until lightly toasted. Then, in a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat place the patties and allow to cook to your preference. Once finished cooking leave some grease in the pan and add the diced onions. Sautee the onions for 5-10 minutes until soft and lightly golden brown. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Start layering the burger in this order: bottom portion of the slider rolls, hamburger patty, 4 slices of cheese, hamburger patty, 4 slices of cheese, burger sauce, sauteed onions, top portion of slider rolls.
Finish by basting the top of the sliders with melted butter and placing them back into the oven for 5-10 minutes or until cheese is melted and top is toasted. Serve & Enjoy these delicious Smashburger Sliders!
