This Italian Chicken Parmesan Tortellini is a family favorite and one that I keep on my weekly dinner menu! It is a super easy and delicious dinner that I make in less than 30 minutes and only takes a few minutes of prep. It features Italian seasoned chicken cooked to perfection combined with tender tortellini pasta and topped with a cheesy creamy parmesan sauce! It can be best described in two words- CHEESY GOODNESS!

How To Make Italian Parmesan Chicken Tortellini
Start by adding the diced chicken breast to a large bowl and add Italian dressing, onion powder, garlic powder and black pepper. I use Olive Garden Italian Dressing for this step. It is an awesome marinade and has all the Italian seasoning needed to make the chicken delicious. Allow the chicken to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
Bring a large pot of water to boil, generously season with salt and cook the tortellini per the package instructions. Drain the pasta and drizzle on a little olive oil to prevent it from sticking while you finish making the dish.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat add some olive oil and the chicken pieces. If you have a lot of excess Italian dressing in the skillet, soak it up using a paper towel. It burns easily so I do not recommend leaving it in the skillet.
Then cook the chicken until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees and the outside is starting to turn golden brown. Remove it from the skillet and set aside.
Then reduce to medium heat and add the butter. Allow it to melt then add the all-purpose flour and whisk together. Cook the flour mixture for 1-2 minutes and add the heavy cream. Constantly whisk while it thickens and starts to simmer. Then add the parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese and stir until combined and it forms a thick cheesy sauce. Season with salt & black pepper to taste.
Nest add the cooked chicken back to the skillet along with the tortellini then stir to combine with the creamy sauce. Serve and enjoy!
FAQ
Can I use canned sauce for this recipe?
- Yes, you may substitute the homemade sauce portion of this recipe by using your favorite pasta sauce! Use up to two 15 ounce jars of Alfredo sauce depending on how “saucy” you would like it to be.
How do I store leftovers?
- Store any leftovers by placing them in an airtight container and eating within 2-3 days. However, just like any alfredo sauce, the sauce doesn’t heat up to the same quality as when first making the dish.
What sides should I serve this with?
- This recipe is best served with a side of garlic bread or garlic knots and a simple green salad.
