oven baked party ribs

This is seriously the best ribs recipe. I know this because they’re finger-licking good! Using the oven is one of my favorite ways to cook baby backs because it’s the best way to make the meaty side fall-of-the-bone tender. This is such a good recipe to share with family and friends!

Why you’ll love this recipe

Ingredients to make Pork Ribs in the Oven

  • Baby back ribs – Head to the local grocery store or talk to the butcher and get a slab of ribs.

  • Liquid Smoke – This is the best way to give oven baked ribs a smoky flavor.

  • Butter – You can use salted or unsalted butter for this.

  • BBQ Sauce – Use your favorite barbecue sauce!

  • Brown sugar – This is used for sweetness in the dry rub.

  • Paprika – Smoked paprika would be a great option as well if you like extra smokey flavor.

  • Black pepper

  • Kosher Salt

  • Onion powder

  • Garlic powder

How to make Oven Baked Party Ribs

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then add the BBQ Dry Rub ingredients to a small mixing bowl and whisk together until well combined and set aside. Remove the ribs from the packaging and pat them dry. Using a paper towel to improve grip, remove the membrane from the bottom side of the rib and discard it.

Slice the ribs into individual pieces. Using a baking sheet with a rack, place the ribs on top of the rack. Drizzle a few drops of Liquid Smoke on each rib and massage it into the meat. Generously season both sides of the ribs with the BBQ Dry Rub and massage the seasoning into the meat.

Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 1 hour 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and place ribs into a 9×13 casserole dish. Place the butter on top of the ribs and generously coat them with your favorite BBQ sauce. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.

Reduce the oven temp to 200 degrees and bake for an additional 30 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

Variations

  • Cayenne pepper – The best way to add some heat to your ribs is to add some cayenne pepper. Chili powder works, too.
  • Grill—You can cook this recipe on a charcoal grill or pellet smoker. However, I recommend omitting the liquid smoke and letting the smoke from the grill give the ribs that smokey flavor.

Storage

  • Did you know that leftover ribs are some of the best things to look forward to eating the next day? Let the pork back ribs cool to room temperature, then add them to an airtight container and keep them stored in the fridge.
  • You can reheat it in the air fryer, oven, or microwave – and be sure to reheat it thoroughly. I like to wrap them in heavy duty foil or aluminum foil to reheat!

At what temperature are baby back ribs safe to eat?

  • Even when you’re cooking ribs at a lower temperature, you still need to make sure that the internal temperature of the pork ribs reaches 190-200 degrees to be considered done and safe to eat.
  • A meat thermometer is a simple way to check the temperature, and it gives you an accurate reading to know when to pull the ribs from the oven.

What other seasonings can be added to the meat side of the ribs?

  • You can add just about anything that you want! I love a good dry rub, but if you want to add ingredients like soy sauce, dry mustard, or other rub ingredients to the meat side of your ribs – go for it. All flavors are good flavor!

Why are my ribs dry?

  • If you notice that the baby back ribs are dry, there’s a good chance that you overcooked the ribs. This is where a meat thermometer comes in super handy!
  • Take the guesswork out of cooking ribs and nail the process every time.

Can I freeze oven baked ribs?

  • Yes, you can freeze cooked ribs. I like to freeze ribs in serving sizes and portions so that way, I don’t have to unthaw them all to enjoy them.

When smoking do you put the ribs in a foil baking dish or directly on the rack and what temperatures do you use?

Yes place them directly on the rack while cooking. You can cook at the same temps called for in this recipe.
