Cheesy Sloppy Joe Pasta

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 cups elbow pasta, cooked al dente and drained
  • 14.5 ounces petite diced tomatoes, drained
  • 15 ounces tomatoe sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 2 teaspoon beef bouillon powder
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

Prep Work

  • Start by cooking the elbow pasta per the package instructions. Once it is al dente, drain the excess water and set it aside. You may add a drop or two of olive oil to the pasta to prevent it from sticking.
  • Peel and dice one medium yellow onion

How To Make Cheesy Sloppy Joe Pasta

Start by adding the diced onions, ground beef, and minced garlic into a large skillet over medium-high heat. At the half-way point of the meat being fully cooked, season it with beef bouillon powder, salt and pepper. This is important because it will allow time for the flavors of the beef bouillon powder to absorb into the meat. Finish cooking the meat until no pink is visible. Then drain off all the excess grease.

Next, add the tomatoe sauce, drained diced tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar and drained pasta to the skillet. Stir until well combined and bring the mixture to a simmer over low-medium heat. Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top and cover the skillet with a lid. Now turn off the heat and allow the steam to melt the cheese.

Once the cheese is melted, allow the pasta to cool for 5 minutes prior to serving. I hope that y’all enjoy this Cheesy Sloppy Joe pasta as much as we do!

FAQ

How does this differ from American style goulash or hamburger helper?

  • The flavor! This dish tastes exactly like a traditional sloppy joe minus the bun. I use different seasonings when I make goulash and hamburger helper and I do not add tomatoes when I make hamburger helper.

What can I serve this dish with?

  • I typically serve this as a stand-alone dish. But, green beans or a simple side salad would pair very well with this pasta.

How long will my leftovers last?

  • Any leftovers should be refrigerated in an airtight container and eaten within 3-4 days.
