Tips for the Perfect Hamburger and Potato Casserole
- Choose the Right Potatoes: For this recipe I typically use canned potato slices for convenience. However, you may use fresh russet potatoes. Just be sure to boil them until they are fork tender before adding them to the casserole.
- Cheese Varieties: Feel free to mix things up by using different cheeses. Colby jack cheese, Sharp cheddar cheese, or mozzarella can add unique flavors to your casserole.
- Add Vegetables: For a more nutritious twist to this delicious meal, add a layer of vegetables like green beans, peas, or corn.
- Make Ahead: This casserole can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to bake. Simply add an extra 10-15 minutes to the baking time if you are baking straight from fridge.
- Make it Extra Creamy– Add 1/2 cup of sour cream to the recipe if you enjoy super creamy dishes.
