In a separate skillet over medium heat, coat one side of each bread slice with a thin layer of mayo and place that side down in the skillet. Place a slice of American cheese on top of the slice of bread and add a serving of the sloppy joe filling. Then add another slice of cheese on top of the mixture and place a toasted piece of bread on top. Toast until golden brown then serve & enjoy!

Variations

  • Quicker route- You may use canned sloppy Joe mixture if you are in a pinch for time!
  • Extra Veggies- Add some chopped green bell pepper for an extra dose of flavor!
  • Spice it up- Add a little chili powder to the meat mixture to give it some heat!
  • Use butter- You may also butter the bread prior to toasting if you don’t like mayo!

Storage

  • Store any leftover meat mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within 2-3 days.
  • For best results, do not make these sandwiches ahead of time because the bread will become soggy and inedible.

What sides pair well with cheesy sloppy joes?

  • I always serve this with French fries, toter tots or chips and dip if I am really in a crunch for time.
